Juan & Fabiola

Forty years ago... ,

Juan & Fabiola wanted to get married. They didn’t have much, but they had each other. There was no way that Juan could give her the wedding that she wanted…and deserved. They did what they could. On February 14, 1986 they said their vows in a high school gym surround by close friends and family. Through thick and thin, 2 children and 3 grandchildren, Juan never forgot.

He wanted to give Fabiola the wedding she wanted.

No.

It would be the wedding she DESERVED.

With their 40th wedding anniversary approaching, Juan had made his mind up. This would be the celebration that she had longed for.

Chapter 2 was about to begin....

The decision was made that it was going to be kept as small as possible. Only close friends and family. Small church. Reception to be held in the Youth Hall at the church. This is what they had always wanted. Wedding preparations in place, he sprung the news on her almost at the last minute, she was shocked that he had done all of this behind her back. This is how much he loved her, even after all these years.

The ceremony was beautiful. The love that they have for each other was clear. They had chosen to write their own vows, and when they read them to each other, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

Later during the reception, as they were about to cut the cake, Juan began to speak about the cake topper. It was evident that it meant something to him. As he continued to speak, he made it known that the cake topper was the same one that they had used when they had been married 40 years ago. “This goes to show you that I CAN take care of something for 40 years!”. The room burst into laughter.

It was clear to everyone that the love that they have for each other is something that they planted, watered, tended to, and watch grow over these last 40 years. But much more than that, the love they have for God and always putting Him first has been the foundation of their relationship.

I wish them another 40-blessed years.
